Section A: Percentage of an amount
1. Find 35% of £420. (1 mark)

15% of £140 = £140 × 0.15 = £21
22. Total charge = £384
VAT = £320 × 0.20 = £64; Total = £320 + £64 = £384
23. Interest earned = £600
Simple interest = £4,000 × 3/100 × 5 = £600
24. Original price = £380
After a 15% discount, price is 85% of original. Original = £323 ÷ 0.85 = £380
25. Total bill = £103.50
